Dear Beautiful Souls,
My favorite time of the year. From September through the 'Ber months, I find the time to be a special time of coziness and reflection. Many of my books focus on this time frame. Could it be the atmosphere of quiet fall nights, crisp cool air, the smells of dried leaves and earthiness mixed with the hint of backyard fire pits or chimney's adding to the ambiance? Yes. Just...yes. But my days seem to be busy and filled with 'things' that I have to do: work, chores, family schedules. How do we find the time to stop and smell the dried leaves and pumpkin spice? In this post, I looked up some guidance to cultivate coziness and tranquility through quiet reflection during the fall months.
The Allure of Fall
Old cemeteries filled with falling leaves, whispers of souls remembering days gone by. The sounds of crackling dried foliage crunching beneath booted feet (yes, I love my ankle and calf-high boots). These are part of my allure of fall. Quickly the days turn into dusk, neutral colors of night mixed with the trees decked out in their finery of resplendent colors. There may even be a cold, wet night where I hurry home to cuddle with a book under a cozy throw and a cup of chamomile tea before bed. Ahh...fall! As nature begins her quiet, beautiful steps into death, she surrounds us with peace and tranquility. But where do I find this time to honor her earthly shroud in my hustle and bustle of daily living?
Creating a Cozy Atmosphere
I had to ask for help in finding some answers to my questions, so please bear with me as I post from guidance. I looked for ideas but in a normal world where time is not affordable as I had hoped for, I asked for smaller moments in how I can celebrate and honor my favorite time of year. As I juggle a full-time job, my creative calling, laundry piles, paying bills, and housework chores, you don't need more hours, just more intention. I give you, The Full Aspect Followed by Micro-Moments of Autumn Reflections-:
Layer Up: Incorporate soft blankets, lush pillows, and warm throws throughout your living space. Mixing textures can enhance both comfort and visual appeal. For instance, a chunky knit throw paired with a velvet pillow creates an inviting look that makes you want to curl up and relax.
Micro-Moment: Wrap yourself in a cozy shawl that gives you a warm hug on a chilly day/night and light a fall scented candle. This ambiance as you sit to balance your bills, schedule your weekly to-do list, or have time to write, do a crossword puzzle, or send a brief text to a friend will give you a feeling of warmth and calm.
Warm Lighting: Swap out harsh lights for soft, warm illumination. Use candles, string lights, or lamps with warm-toned bulbs to create a soothing atmosphere. According to a study, warm lighting can enhance feelings of coziness by about 30 percent, making your space feel more inviting.
Micro-Moment: Again, with the candles, (just be mindful of safety-never leave it burning), or even turn off most of the lighting and settle for a cozy lamp near your quiet space. Candles add a sense of warmth and nostalgia for days of old-before electricity when our days were made longer by more light.
Seasonal Scents: Fill your space with the aromas of fall. Scents like cinnamon, pumpkin spice, and apple cider can be spread through essential oils, scented candles, or fresh-baked goods. Reports show that pleasant scents can elevate mood and reduce stress levels by as much as 20 percent.
Micro-Moment: Well, that says it all--reduce stress. Seasonal scents on the quick? A cup of coffee with pumpkin spice; or carry a sachet of cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, and anise with you for quick, calming boosts.
Nature’s Touch: Bring fall’s beauty indoors using natural elements. Decorate with pinecones, acorns, or colorful leaves. A simple bouquet of seasonal flowers or a bowl filled with apples can instill a sense of nature in your home.
Micro-Moment: Make your entryway, foyer-wherever you leave/come home to first a decorative alter to fall. A small bowl of seasonal potpourri (also adds to the Seasonal Scents above), dried leaves (either fake or real), pinecones, or baby pumpkins can give you that all over fall feel.

The Power of Quiet Reflection
Again, I looked for guidance in quiet reflection, in chaotic moments. We all need to do this, just as we schedule a doctor's appointment, or having to pick up the kids from dance or football games: we need that time, even if it is just a moment or two, to pause. Here are the ways to work on that, if you have more than a moment, and again, Micro-Moments:
Journaling: Dedicate a few minutes each day to write in a journal. Reflect on your emotions, thoughts, and experiences. Research reveals that journaling can improve mental well-being by 40 percent, helping you process your feelings effectively.
Micro-Moment: Before bed or first thing in the morning (depending on time when you feel less rushed), sit down and make a small list of things you need to do that day/or next day. Not large list-prioritize just the most important things. This is a good time for that moment of pumpkin spice coffee in the morning or soothing apple spice herbal tea before bed. Remember the soft lighting, too.
Mindful Walks: Spend time walking in nature. Pay attention to the colors, sounds, and smells that surround you. Studies show that 30 minutes of walking in a natural setting can decrease anxiety levels significantly.
Micor-Moments: The above is wonderful if you have the time. If not, take five minutes to walk outside to get the mail. Stop and take in the atmosphere around you. Breathe in the crisp air, watch a leaf fall from the tree, or the gentle wind rustling.
Meditation: Introducing meditation to your routine can be beneficial. Even a few minutes of focused breathing can declutter your mind and promote relaxation.
Gratitude Practice: At the end of each day, take a moment to think about what you are thankful for. This practice has been shown to enhance overall happiness by nearly 25 percent.
I'm leaving the last two, Meditation and Gratitude Practice alone, they speak for themselves. And yes, combine the two if you must, or take time to focus when you step outside to embrace nature around you while checking the mail. The best time to do these is when you put your phone down to charge--recharge yourself from social media scrolling and angst that comes with much of the news we see online.
I am also keeping some of these ideas below as fall brings changes, so we change as well. It's okay for changes, especially if they bring about something good and productive for us. Read ahead:
Embracing Change
Fall signifies change, both in nature and in our lives. As trees shed their leaves, we too can let go of what no longer benefits us. This season encourages personal growth and transformation.
Ask yourself: What changes do you want to make? Whether it’s picking up a new hobby, setting achievable goals, or releasing negative thoughts, fall’s backdrop provides an ideal setting for these changes.
Finding Calm in the Chaos
In a fast-paced world, finding calm can be a challenge. However, fall offers a unique chance to slow down and prioritize self-care. Here are effective strategies to help you discover calm amidst the bustle:
Digital Detox: Disconnect from screens and social media for a while. Use this time to reconnect with yourself and your surroundings, allowing for more meaningful moments.
Create a Routine: Develop a daily schedule that sets aside time for relaxation and reflection. Whether it's a morning coffee ritual or evening quiet time, having a routine can foster structure and tranquility.
Connect with Loved Ones: Dedicate time to enjoy the company of family and friends. Share a meal or go for a walk together. Studies found that social interactions can boost happiness by 15 percent.

Embracing the Season
As we appreciate the beauty of fall, let’s take the opportunity to foster coziness and calm through quiet reflection. This season invites us to slow down, cherish the little things, and reconnect with ourselves. By creating a warm atmosphere, engaging in reflective practices, and embracing change, we can navigate the fall months with grace and tranquility.
So, wrap yourself in your favorite blanket, brew a warm cup of tea, and take a moment to savor the beauty of this season. Embrace the coziness and calm that fall has to offer, allowing it to guide you on a journey of self-discovery and peace.
What are your favorite ways to enjoy the coziness of fall? I'd love to hear your thoughts and ideas.
Thank you for taking time to read and hope you enjoyed with a cup of pumpkin spice coffee or soothing fall flavored tea...and a cozy shawl or blanket wrapped around you for a moment.
Believe In Fate,
Loni
